Volunteer Concierge service commences at the Lions Eye Institute Here is your opportunity. The Lions Save-sight Foundation in conjunction with the Lions Eye Institute has established a volunteer concierge or ’Friends of LEI’ programme. In recent months an increased number of elderly patients are arriving in the downstairs reception area of the Institute often unaccompanied. Parking at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital is at a premium and often family members or friends have to drop patients at the door and drive off and wait for a phone call with instructions when to pick them up. The new concierge programme will see volunteers ‘meeting and greeting’ patients and escorting them to the Doctor with which they have an appointment. In addition the volunteers will fetch pharmacy prescriptions on behalf of patients, arrange transport and generally make an appointment to the Institute an enjoyable visit. In addition, there is now a new coffee cart with an excellent barista offering a range of coffee and cakes. If you would like to spend a few hours each week helping our patients call or email the Lions Save-Sight Foundation. Four hour shifts are available. |

The camera was bought from the Estate of Ross and Josephine Spence, both former Lions and is one of only two in Australia and the first in the world to be used solely for research. |
