The Lions Save-Sight Foundation is committed to supporting the Lions Eye Institute by awarding Scholarships to enable world class medical scientists and researchers to work at the Institute.
Dr Matthew Wikstrom
In May 2011, the prestigious Brian King Post-Doctoral Fellowship was awarded to Dr Matthew Wikstrom for research into the study of immune responses in the eye to gain an understanding of how the immune system monitors the eye and protects it from infection. He was chosen by an independent panel from a widely qualified field of international candidates. The three year Fellowship is jointly funded by the Lions Eye Institute and the Lions Save-Sight Foundation. The LEI, who is affiliated with the University of Western Australia, is one of the largest multi-disciplinary eye research institutes in the world, with competitive funding from national and international funding bodies and a proven track record in the commercialisation of in-house intellectual property.
Jack Hoffman Scholarship Dr Iona Schuster was granted a partial Jack Hoffman Scholarship to enable her to complete her thesis “Mechanisms that define effective long term antiviral immunity”. Her work to be completed in 2011, is under the supervision of Professor Degli-Esposti, Director of Research at the Lions Eye Institute. |
